Vodafone Launches Application Store in India
Vodafone Essard has launched its mobile application store in India, days after the launch of Airtel application store. Reportedly, the application store has been on air since Feb 15th, but seems like no official launch announcement was noticed until this week.
Vodafone, in collaboration with Arvato Mobile, is offering both paid and free mobile application download services to Vodafone customers. While most of the youth utilize smartphones and data enabled handsets, the rest of the Vodafone users use basic handsets.
To avail access to the Vodafone Application Store, users must have an internet enabled mobile phone and an active Vodafone number to get started.
To enable or access the Vodafone India Application Store services, users can point their cell phone browser to Vodafone Live! or can also type APP and text it to 111 (Vodafone toll free).
Vodafone App Store – India
As of now, the Vodafone Mobile Application Store is providing users with a gallery of about 800 applications covering categories like entertainment, utility, finance, social networking, and a lot more. About 15% of all these applications are available for free, while others are optimally priced from Rs 5 to Rs 30.
This service can be availed by Vodafone users with internet connectivity in their handsets. Applications on the mobile app store are organized into categories like Newest Applications, Top Applications and Just For You Applications, etc.
Vodafone Live – Applications Galore
After Airtel and Vodafone, it is presumed that Aircel may launch the next mobile application store in India. Since, Aircel, in a similar move, has partnered with Infosys to introduce a first-of-its-kind mobile application store in India that’s powered by Flypo, a tool developed by Infosys to integrate into Aircel’s technology environment.
It is interesting to note that so far Reliance not set up its own mobile application store in India. Is this the proverbial silence before the storm? Only time will tell...
