Time to Replace the Old GPS Device with CoPilot iPhone App!

Smartphones do a lot more than just making calls, checking emails. One of  the feature in the phones is capable of doing is completely replacing a traditional GPS device in your car, thanks to GPS applications like CoPilot Live.

CoPilot from ALK Technologies is one of many GPS applications for the iPhone. I am used to of my tom-tom  in the car and Google Maps on iPhone but the CoPilot GPS app was something out of this world!

CoPilot is available for $29.99 for a lifetime use all the features except Fuel Prices and Live traffic which are part of the premium service and costs $19.99 on early basis. Users can also buy one year subscription of $19.99 which includes all the features and premium services or a $2.99 for a 30-day pack including premium services as well. 

Users can also try the 30-day free version which offers all the features and functionality of the full version. After 30 days you will either have to purchase subscription or use the Map-Only-Turn-by-Turn version of the application. (download link)

Some people have been using it for quite a while now after it was shared for a review and not surprisingly they  no longer use Google maps on iPhone or even my GPS device in the car.

Some of the features that are really impressive:

Places Of Interest (Nearby): Every time you stop at a signal or an intersection or for whatever reason, these little pointers pop up alerting you of the businesses and other things around you. Just click on the one that you are interested in and it will show you the business details including phone number and route information.

ClearTurn and Lane Indicator: These two features make it real easy for the driver to get into the right lane or make the right turn on a complicated intersection. The graphics look a LOT better and easy to understand with ClearTurn.

App Memory after Call: CoPilot remembers your location and destination information if the navigation is interrupted by an incoming call. The application fires up with the last shown information on the screen once the call ends.

Route Demo or Preview:  Once you setup your destination, “Play Demo” quickly runs you through the route to make you familiar with it even before you start your journey.

Tracking and Online Interaction: Users who do not have an iPhone or CoPilot can track your location or interact with the CoPilot with the help of an online interface. A CoPilot user can send a message to a selected user or a group of users at a time.

Routing Profiles: CoPilot lets you create multiple profiles in case multiple people use this application for travel. This comes in handy when people have different preferences like some might want to avoid expressways, some might not be comfortable driving through the local roads, avoid toll highways, or rides a motorbike, etc..

The latest version of the application has an average rating of 4 on iTunes and is compatible with iPhone 3G and 3GS with 3.0 or higher firmware. CoPilot has almost everything you will ever want from a GPS device!
