A million iPads sold?

Chitika Labs reported the 1 millionth iPad this Saturday. Chitika is an advertising network and serves over 2 billion ad impressions a month.

The way it tracks the number of iPads is by identifying and keeping a count of new iPads that show up on its network.

Obviously these are unofficial numbers, in fact at the time when Chikita was reporting 700,000 iPads identified, Apple announced 500,000 sold. Chikita reset the count to match Apple’s numbers and tweaked its tracking technique from IP to cookie based tracking.

If the numbers are any true, Apple will leave very little room for rumors by publishing the numbers by early next week, most probably with the 1st Quarters revenue numbers.

But for now if these numbers are any true, it took 14 days for Apple to hit the lucky number. iPhone 3G and 3Gs sold a million units each in the first 3 days but that included upgrades as well.
