Apple iPad banned in Israel

If you are travelling to Israel anytime soon you might want to leave your iPad back home, if not you will not only have to leave the  iPad with the customs but also pay a fee for each day of your stay in the country.

Israel imposed a ban on import and usage of iPad in the country. The ban comes in effect immediately and customs officials said to have confiscated about 10 of them already. The ban was implemented because of the Wi-Fi frequencies iPad operates on.

Apparently, iPad operates on higher frequencies than other gadgets. This can cause issues as the gadget might interfere with other gadgets operating on the lower frequencies.

Apple has not reacted to the ban yet but the company is expected to make changes to iPad that are sold internationally as Europe has similar rules in place for Wi-Fi frequencies.

iPad was launched on 3rd April and sold over 500,000 units in the first week itself. Though the international shipments were postponed by Apple sighting the high local demand now it seems that was not the only reason.

Let’s wait and see how Apple will react and what changes it makes to be compatible with wireless communication laws internationally.
