Greg Packer first in NYC line for iPad

Greg Packer sure has a way of getting his name in the news. He's been quoted in dozens of newspaper stories over the years, and he made headlines in 2007 for being first in line for the original iPhone. Guess what he's first in line for now? You guessed it: the iPad.

As he did in the summer of 2007, Packer parked himself in front of Apple's famous "cube" store in Manhattan, first in a line of one for the gotta-have iPad.

In a brief YouTube, Packer tells a clutch of tourists why he's willing to wait three days in line — by himself, at the moment — for the Apple tablet: Because "it's like a mini laptop! I mean, you just, you know, click it on, just like you click the iPhone on. And you don't have to open it up, and you know, go through, you know, go through everything."

True enough, but Packer is also known for, well ... just being in the news. Packer had already been quoted as the proverbial man on the street "more than 100 times" over the previous several years in news outlets including the New York Times, the Washington Post, the L.A. Times, and CNN. As Packer himself told , "I'm the best person to come to...I always give time, and I always have an answer." Indeed, Packer's been quoted so often that in 2003 (according to E&P), the AP instructed their reporters to stop quoting him!

But the fact remains — Packer is again the first in line for an iPad! So let's him his due. That is after we decide what it is..
