New Google's Twitter Search - Is it better than the Original Twitter Search?

Google just announced a new feature in the search options which lets users search the twitter timeline for a specific word or phrase.

In a few days the new update will be globally available in English language; however, you can try it right now using this link.

The search option seems to be better than Twitter search in many ways.

Time-based search: Google search lets you select a time period from which the results will be shown.

For example if you search for “Earthquake” the time line shows 3 notable spikes and it’s pretty obvious that each spike represents an earthquake in some part of the world.

In this case there was an earthquake in Chicago on 10th Feb, the disastrous earthquake in Chile on 27th of Feb and the most recent one in Mexicali on 5th of April. (A new earthquake hit China today!)

Top Links: The search also shows the top tweeted links on a specific date or time. This feature really helps in separating the good content from not so good content. Also, tweets are the preview of the information you are looking for the real/detailed information lies in these links on the side.

A very helpful feature while researching a topic and would like to get a sense of reactions from the electronic  media and individuals.

For now the search data will search tweet as old as February 11, 2010, however, users will be able to search for tweets going back as far as March, 2006!
