Speak on the Phone in a Language you Do Not Know

Imagine, being able to talk to a person in a language you have never spoken before! A couple of years ago there was this viral video making the rounds about the fictional PomoGranate Phone.

The video shows two people talking through their phones in different languages, their words being translated into what the person opposite understands.

Google has now actually made this possible for us with Google Translate, albeit in a pretty basic  form.

Google Translate for Android phones was launched about a year ago, and for their anniversary, a new feature called Conversation Mode has been added (still in alpha).

You can use this great new feature by getting Google Translate on your Android (2.1 and above). Search for Google Translate on the Market, or simpy use the below QR code:

When you enter the Translate App, enter or speak a word to be translated and then you should see an option to enter the conversation mode below. Once you enter that, it goes to the other person using the same feature, and they have the option of responding in their chosen language.

According to Google’s official announcement, because the technology is still new, “factors like regional accents, background noise or rapid speech may make it difficult to understand what you’re saying.

It still in a nascent stage but if it delivers right, the future is sure gonna sound different!
