The Ultra Wet Grinder - A Masterpiece!

I am going to go out of my way to write this blog. An Indian friend of mine took me to this 'Desi' store on Devon Avenue, Chicago and it was there I saw a marvel of a machine.

I am talking about the Ultra Wet Grinder which is available in two sizes.

Ultra Pride Plus is a multifunction table top wet grinder, which is light in weight and portable. It uses the 'Fresh Grind' technology whereby the heat smell from the grinding is not transmitted to the contents / batter. The drum capacity is 1.25 liters. Besides batter from rice and pulses, it comes with an other attachment – for kneading wheat flour (atta).

The ULTRA Pride Plus can make dough preparation fast and easy. The stainless steel drum can grind from one to five cups of grains. The powerful 110V motor is designed for the Indian-American kitchen to run continuously for at least twenty minutes. The lightweight stainless steel drum detaches easily from the drive shaft. Take it off for easy cleaning in the sink. It also doubles as a storage vessel for the batter. The drum has a stone bottom to give that authentic taste you get only from stone on stone grinding. The dual grinding stones are lightweight and are easy to remove and clean.The grinding stone, being conical shape, ensures efficient grinding at optimum speed that results in smoother batter and makes your dosas and idlies tastier. The atta kneader attachment helps you get optimum kneading of the dough and makes smooth dough for soft chapathis, fluffy poories, moist cookies, or even a pizza.

This products seems to be very popular among the south Indian community with a few people even purchasing the larger 2 liter version! Although I for one will never buy this product (For the simple reason that I do not cook Indian foods!), I truly recommend this product if you want to try to make the batter for 'Idli' or 'Dosa' at home.

This product is available on the eBay and Amazon at an average price of $200 + shipping. Although I never endorse any store, I am going mention the store I visited in Chicago. That guy actually gives a one year limited warranty on the product and has a technician who takes care of repairs incase you purchased it from somewhere else and ran into some wear-n-tear issues.
