March 19 2011 : SuperMoon Night
March 19, 2011 is fast approaching and many people feared that the 2011 Supermoon will bring natural disaster.
Science explains that the supermoon means that we see each night will be more larger and brighter on March 19. The moon will be 221,567 miles or 356,577 kilometers away from the earth.
According to an astrologer named Richard Nolle, this supermoon may cause natural disaster. He said that supermoons takes place because the moon orbits the Earth in a slightly elliptical orbit and not in a perfect circle. He also told ABC Radio that supermoons have historical associations with very high tides due to its gravitational pull, strong storms, earthquakes and extreme tides.
The theories of Richard Nolle were dismissed by the seismologits and astronomers. They said that natural disasters happen regardless of whether there’s a supermoon or not.
John BelliniBellini, a geophysicist at the U.S. Geological Survey said that there have been a lot of studies done about supermoons by the USGS scientists, but they haven’t found anything significant at all.
According to experts, the natural disasters connected to the supermoon is just a coincidence and there is no strong evidence found. Supermoons occur every 10 to 20 years. The last time a supermoon occured was on 1992
