BillMonk - Where Debt meets Social Networking

Friends owing friends money is as old as, well money. You know the scenario: it’s a Friday night and you and a few buddies go out for some fun. None of you in the group is rich, but you took care to chip in for drinks, food and cover. Sunday morning rolls around. And save for a hefty hangover, you’re left with little or nothing.

Unless you’re in the mafia, or just don’t care, it’s always kind of awkward to ask friends to pay up. And it’s worse to have to borrow money.

We have all been in such or relatively similar situation. This is where BillMonk comes in to the picture.

BillMonk is a free Web-based service that “keeps track of your money and stuff so you don’t have to” and, to make your first steps with it as easy as possible, offers excellent integration with Facebook (add Facebook friends to bills or choose to get notifications about bills as Facebook notifications), especially the ability to log in using your Facebook ID. Pretty cool but I would not recommended putting your debts out on the social network (facebook).

Basically, BillMonk is a app that’ll keep tabs on what you’re owed and what you owe. It will do all the math for you once you’ve paid up, or once you are paid. It even makes splitting bills easy. Just input the particulars of the bill (who, how much, emails etc) and it does the rest.

There is  now also a mobile option and you can pay friends directly from the site via Obopay.

Signing up to BillMonk is easy; just give them your name and email address.

BillMonk is ideal for settling IOUs. With BillMonk and receipts there’s no need to squabble about who owes what and you don’t have to feel so bad about borrowing money. BillMonk really does the math for you and it’s easy enough to use without too much work.

Give it a try. You just might say goodbye to your receipts and the calculator.
